Sr. Mechanical Designer/Estimator


An experienced mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the design of custom equipment is desired. The position will entail the creation of concepts, designs and the management and oversight of all aspects of the construction and commissioning of mechanical and hydro-mechanical test equipment.  Common systems include high speed and high torque rotational test equipment at both a component and system level, powertrain component and system level test systems, high pressure and high force applications as well as a wide range of test equipment as required in the aerospace and transportation market segments. The design requirements are highly varied and will require strong analytical skills and extensive familiarity with mechanical design standards and the application of these standards to solve real world problems, within the project timeline.  During the design and build process, extensive time will be spent working with the project management team and the customer to produce and perfect mechanical concepts.  Designs will be performed by the mechanical design department under the direction of the mechanical engineering manager.  Once the designs are approved, the mechanical engineering manager will work with purchasing to source all components and will oversee the assembly of the equipment on our shop floor. 

The successful candidate will manage a small mechanical design team and will be responsible for meeting project cost and timing targets and will report directly to the engineering manager.  The position will require strong interpersonal skills and will support sales in both estimating mechanical engineering job costs and presenting design concepts to customers during the sales process.  A successful candidate must be able to convey the important aspects of the mechanical design to the customer and establish our expertise at solving their problem. Occasional travel during the quoting process, as well as customer support and during on-site start-up and integration is required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BSME 3.0 GPA or better
  • 7+ years’ experience
  • Design, debug and troubleshooting of test equipment
  • Experience with high speed rotational equipment highly desired
  • Conceptual design and estimation of mechanical equipment cost for test and production
  • Experience managing technical resources, customers and project timelines
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Ability and desire to solve complex technical problems using both experience and analytical tools
  • Ability to use Autodesk Inventor design software and ANSYS analytical software
  • Ability to estimate design time and labor required for custom mechanical designs of various types

Project Engineers / LabVIEW Programmers


We are currently looking for LabVIEW Programmers/Project Engineers with expertise in the design, development, and deployment of instrumentation, measurement, automated testing, and controls systems utilizing National Instruments LabVIEW in our Clarkston, Michigan and Raleigh, North Carolina offices.  Candidates must have significant experience with LabVIEW programming, electrical design, specifying sensors and measurement devices, and other hardware/software interfacing in PC based environments.  Well rounded experience including data acquisition using DAQmx, PXI, FPGA, and LabVIEW Real-Time is a plus.  Certifications such as Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) are also valued.  Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering and 2+ years of experience in a development role.
